you are mistaken. i tested it with slow zealots. starting at mainbase choke and stopping when arriving at enemy's natural. now, zealots are much slower than lings.
horizontal position is 20secs, vertical 27secs for slow zealots. now look at your picture, the white line representing the distance considered "very close pos" on gaia is 23seconds BY LINGS. make it with slow zealots and you will see approx. the "rushing positions" of gaia are the actual LONG routes on illusion.
take the time of slow zealots to travel and then post your result. you can actually see on the picture how short distances are on illusion
thx4your effort, but i dont think i am mistaken - games have proven the opposite of what you say often enough. rushing in PvZ is a bit like 12/3 LT
how are you btw?
just tested it. shortest route on gaia is 29-30seconds for a slow zealot. the SHORTEST route on Gaia almost fits the LONGEST distance between CROSS POSITIONS on illusion.
besides, testgames show things like these better than any calculation. you just would have had to play a pvz on the map and go a 2gaterush
/edit
i resized your image modified by flothefreak
you took gaia as example for base distances. the white line in your image represents the shortest route on gaia, which is widely and generally considered a _close_ position.
the distances on illusion are even shorter
