So I finally got StarForge (the old map editor, not that upcoming crazy everything-in-one-game) actually running, i.e. starting... But now it won't load maps (or do anything useful at all), because for some reason it cannot read StarDat.mpq...
Does any one of you use StarForge and know how I can get it to work?
no clue... I would map better with the regular editor than that, i could never use it well. never got it to work more than 5 minutes, when it would crash on me
Umm are you asking what to use to create and edit maps? If that's your question everyone here uses SCMDraft2 you can find the DL link by going to liquipedia>tools and then the link to the download website is there under SCMDraft 2 too lazy to link it rn...
StarForge used to be nice for tile editing, but SCMDraft was updated ages and ages ago to have equal functionality. The only other thing it was good for was UMS maps if you had a lot of triggers to make, since it had some features to help automate that.
I have no idea why it is crashing on you. When in doubt, install a fresh copy of StarCraft and see if it works then :P It's so old, it might not even work with newer operating systems. Last time I used it I had XP lol. Running Windows 7, and the SC folder I copied to this machine is giving me errors when starting up StarForge too. A fresh install might work if I cared enough, since I'm not getting an mpq error. It just wants to know where my data files are and it's pointing to some obviously out of date area from my old PC.
You have a better bet asking on StarEdit.net for help getting StarForge running. Lots of users there used to use StarForge if any are still around. I think I was one of the only people who used it back in the day for melee when I wanted to do tile editing before SCMDraft2.
