Tutorial on Publishing

Today we are gonna learn how to publish maps on battle net 2.0 for sc 2 =] So let's get started.. ;p


STEP ONE!
Open the map you wanna publish in the SC Editor.. then go to
File >> Preferences (Cntr+Shift+alt+P not much of shortcut lol)
Now click on Documents and mark the Smaller saves option..



Close the preferences window and SAVE YOUR MAP!


STEP TWO!
Go to File >> Publish and in the new window that pops up, click the "Log In" Button
Write your battle net account and password and click connect button




STEP THREE!
Go to Modules >> Overview manager (F12 key)
Click on "Document info" and write a name for your map it the right side of the window (Only the name is enought, you don't need to fill the other fields) Then close the Overview manager



Now SAVE YOUR MAP again..


STEP FOUR!
Go to File >> Publish again
Now you need to do 3 things in this order
a)In the top right corner of the window change the "Release" to "Public"
b)If the field bellow "Locale" in the middle is empty click "Change name" and write one (this will be the name that the map will apear on battle net with) Then click "Use for all Locales"
c)Choose the "Locked" option bellow if this is the final version of the map and you aren't going to edit it in the future.. otherwise pick "Unlocked" (Note that other users can change things in your map if you choose this one..)



If you've done everything right on the left it should say "Verification: Ready to publish!" and the OK button will be clickable :)

STEP FIVE! Enjoy the map with your friends on battle net!! =D

yep johnjohn's awesome that's why i picked it to give a nice background for the tutorial xD

in the left white box what red text do you have left after you do everything?

i guess it's normal since i see only chess map as a unique custom game, it has probably something to do with the beta phase 2 stage

For melee maps make sure to set it to default play modes before you publish.

^ How do you do that?

Also, you can publish with locked version and can update it later. It's just that you can't download the file from bnet and use that one. As long as you don't delete the original file from your computer, you can continually update it.

i remember reading that it says that you can't update it if it's Locked.. may be i'm wrong =(

PP: it says
"A locked map can not be opened in the editor by anyone, including your self"

Two extra steps but still gives "Failed" for some reason xD



Go to Map >> player Properties and make players equal to the number of start locations in the map then click ok





Go to Map >> Game variants and Click "Generate Defaults" then click ok.. and save the map again


And a little change in STEP FOUR! someone said that it has to be "Private" and "Unlocked" to work.. but it still dosen't work for me.. :(

Aparantly you can publish maps only on the US servers for the second stage of the beta..

but have you asked your self why the us server has 50+ custom maps and the Europe one has only 1 Chess map ? =]

"Beta ends tomorrow! (19th July). This second phase has been really bad for the mappers. Many of the maps broke in some way or another, the popularity boost has been removed but the system hasn't changed, EUROPE DID NOT GET CUSTOM MAP PUBLISHING and leaderboards textures are messed up."

I'm sure you can publish updates even if you choose locked. I do it myself.

Also, how do you get cross-tileset terrain in?

Game launchers after a week and they will proubably change alot of stuff by then.. :)
