I've played a bit with the small flag sprite, the idea is to put one in each main, with owner the opposite player, so in the start each player has a clear view of the main base of the opponent.
Of course, if you wanna hide what you're doing you can sacrifice a worker and take that flag and walk somewhere out of sight, or to use to show misleading stuff to the opponent.
Problem is that prolly I fuked it, but until picked that flag is neutral (at least in melee) and if you kill the worker carrying it the flag goes back to it's original position.
Do you think this can be done, like to have obs spots on certain areas of the maps?
Unlikely. The only units that will be placed for a player in melee are his main building, 4 workers and an overlord and 3 larvae in case of z. Everything else must be owned by P12 or it won't appear in melee. At least I don't think anyone has managed to place other players' units so far.
We should think about adding something to our maps that makes it possible to see the whole map in UMS, though. In Staredit, there is a layer "fog of war", we could just "unfog" everything but the player's main bases (so that start position and race stays unknowns) for every player. It's some extra work, though.
I meant - Sprites, Unit Sprites, Neutral, Special, flag.
In melee, if it's placed with player 12 owner, it doesn't show anything until picked up. The moment a player picks it up, it show an area around it to both players. (I think it's to both players).
So you can walk it around with a worker showing/hiding parts of your base. But, as far as my testing showed, if you kill the worker, or get him to build anything the flag goes back to it's original location
