Map making?

I just started getting interested into making maps, and I was wondering what program do you guys use to make maps? And i'm also having problems making a ramp..

SCMDraft2
StarEdit aka Campaign editor.

search 'ramp' on the left tab and dl the maps. Then use SCMDraft2 to copy/paste those into your map also using scmdraft2.

What would be the easiest terrain type for a beginner?

I'd say jungle. Its the most appealing to the eyes and simple. If you want a basic type of map though, use Ash. the only problem with ash, is that theres a lack of doodads using that terrain type for the highground terrain and in general... only the 'dirt' has many doodads to play with.

How do you copy paste the ramps?

use the terrain layer, then the copy/paste from the drop down menu. It's only available in scmdraft though not staredit. Once you copy the terrain or in this case the ramp, you can open up ur map and paste it into urs. Make sure its the same tileset :P

make sure you dont put too many straight lines in your map.. it doesnt look good unless ur using the space terrain. Dont overdo doodads but make sure you use 'em! Symmetrical maps help positional balances, but only if you want to take the time to do it correctly.

try not to spam maps (like adding more than 2 maps at once) :D
