MOTM?
page: 1 2
Err....MOTM-7? and 8 and 9 for that matter? Testbug werent you going to post Silver Flush?
2007, 10, 07 15:01
iron flush can be repleaced with anny good map like Snowshock.

or we can simply forget iron flush and post motm8 (Endless fields) and motm9 (Erebos)
2007, 10, 07 21:28
Testbug, what the heck is going on?!

The people voted for it. The authors agreed to have flo edit it. Flo did the editing creating Silver Flush and, as I understood it, handed it over to you because you were going to do additional editing. As far as I know you were going to post it last week. Now its this weekend and it is still not up! What is going on? And not only dad, MOTM-8 and MOTM-9 have not been posted becuse they are waiting for you to post MOTM-7! Also what is this thing about Snowshock? Snowshock never participated in MOTM-7.

Please, post Siver Flush MOTM-7 ASAP. If you can't I can do it, if all the other admins agree, do you guys agree?

it's my map, so i agree ;D
but seriously, even if "some" still think desperately there'd be too many flaws - it is however a good map, no doubt and more important: it is a true bwmn project somehow. something we tried a while ago (MD proj.); now it worked all alone. imo this is a real boost.
2007, 10, 08 14:17
Flo, I don't mean to "rock the boat" but I have just learned that testbug has some issues with the authorship, editing and the process by which a voted Iron Flush ended up as a MOTM-7 Siver Flush. No need to discuss it here, you can PM him or send him an e-mail, but I still maintain that we need a set of rules clearly written say in the "articles" section regarding how a MOTM is selected/edited.
2007, 10, 09 01:20
no we dont need. in fact, we must not have something like it. several attempts in the past have shown that every move towards a set of rules gets exploited and abused sooner or later. keeping the motm a fairly open process (like, admins can deny votes of unknowns and stuff) means we can maintain a control of what maps get the title - and exclude bad maps, even if they win by votes. just look Iron flush - it was no really good map but somehow managed to win. without correction, a bad map had been motm. now, we just waited, argued, discussed and concluded to replace it with an edited version. now we got a better motm 7 just BECAUSE there are no fix rules to screw it up.
(sensible admin power usage provided; which still is the case as we're not too many)
2007, 10, 09 12:26
Flo, that is not true. You can write all those things you say into the rules. You can write something like: "the map with the most votes does not automatically get to be MOTM, there also has to be an agreement among the admins for the map to be posted as such". You can also write "admins may require or perform significant editing on a map before it can become MOTM" and "when a situation arises not covered by these rules the admins will decide" and so forth.

People (at least people from democratic countries) have a very specific idea of what a voting process is. When the results of a vote are not respected outright or maps are edited against author's wishes, we become vulnerable to charges of dishonesty, hipocrisy and cronyism. You have said many times this is not a democracy, fine, then let's spell it out clearly for everyone that comes to this site to see and understand.

As Kent Brockman once said:

"I've said it before and I'll say it again: Democracy simply doesn't work."

panschk, as the designated "GOD" of this web-site I have some qualms about antagonizing you but sorry, I just call them like I see them.

That statement you quoted is extremely stupid and you quoting it is not very smart. Nothing works when it comes to human beings at least compared to perfection, but democracy works best, that is the key point. This Kent Brockman chap, did he live in Russia under Stalin or Lenin? or in Germany under Hittler? in Italy under Musolinin? in Cambodia under Pol-Pot? in China under Mao? in Irak under Sadam? Get my drift?

We are spoiled, we complain about the failing of democracy not realizing we are oders of magnitude better of with it than without it.

Now democracy doesn't work for all things, I will grant you that and this web-site may be one of them.

But my point is that we SHOULD make it clear this is not a democracy, specially if we have a VOTING PROCESS going on.

Tell you what, I will write a draft of this and I will open a new thread so I can get feedback from you all.
2007, 10, 12 00:57
lol. Lancet, are you familiar with, Socrates? Or, Plato? Both were very influencial Greek philosophers. They both argued for a government run by a dictator-like philosopher, who would be wise and whatnot. They argued for this extreme in the face of the other extreme, complete democracy. You know what they noticed, in Athens, about true democracy? It allowed every to voice their opinions, and therefore nothing was accomplished. It was a mess.
You want modern proof that true democracy is garbage? Under true democracy, Desert Flower, Galaxy Prime, testbug's Iron Flush, the unmodified FSS would all have won motw or motm. Now, you can argue that those are all amazing maps, but you'd be wrong. I say they aren't/weren't great maps because they had glaring racial and/or positional imbalances. Now, this isn't all that important with the average map, but is when it's the next motm or motw, lol.
2007, 10, 12 03:24
Nightmarjoo, you are mixing apples and oranges, I have already accepted that this web-site may not a democracy, I am only arguing that WE SHOULD make it clear.

As to Plato and Socrates, well remember that Plato was soured over the support of the people for the terrible Peloponnesian war and the execution of Socrates (remember also that Athens was not a "true" democracy and that it is very different from what we consider a democracy today). Their views in any case are different from those of others greek phillosophers such as Aristotle and many other later day intellectuals like Schumpeter, Downs, Dahl, Madison, Jefferson, Adams and the list goes on and on.

But it is really stupid to quote authority. Try thinking for yourself. The most important shortcoming of Plato's arguments is how do you make sure that this dictator-like phillosopher is wise and what not and even more important, REMAINS wise and whatnot? If there is no way to remove him from office and he starts doing things people don't like, you are stuck with him! I know, when many voices are heard the process of change is slow, but fast change is not that good either.

As to the maps, I won't get into that argument because I don't want to lose the focus of this discussion, but I disagree with you.

Lancet, I do think for myself. I'm merely paraphrasing the views of well known individuals so that you might listen to what I say instead of just see some text by some XXX named Nightmarjoo.

And, at the time, Athens was a true democracy. Obviously things were not always that way.

Athens a true democracy? With no political rights granted to slaves, Metics or women? Hundreds of thousands of people and only a few tens of thousands having these political rights? I don't think so.

I don't think you are a XXX either, you are just merely anoying (and wrong).

Anyway, enough said. I will write a draft of these rules regarding voting that I want to propose and I will post them as a new thread. You can have the last word on your beloved Plato and Socrates, be my guest.

lol censoring "fag" ? What are we, 5 years old? Grow up :(

Somebody invisibled our posts, I figured out they were probably offended by that so I restored the post but left out the word. Were Plato or Socrates gay?

: ^ )

some people that posting here still doesnt live in a true democracy, even these days.that's why is impossible to make them clear their benefits.

about athen, lancet is right.it was so much a democracy like this site is one.it's one thing what these philosophers wants;the reality was completely different.btw,n-mjoo this wise ruler about you spoken, should be elected for awhile and should represent a symbol of decency and integrity.also in their vision this ruler wouldnt overrule the convention of the elected delegates.this wasnt possible not even in sparta wich never pretend to be a democracy.not even if war threaten them.

to pretend this site couldnt be managed in a different way is laughable.and a pretext to ignore the opinion of the majority, here.it shows how stupid and arrogant are those who insist this is the only way.this is the reason why their choosed maps and their opinions have no echo in the comunity - that's why they need to censor peoples opinions.that why this site will still remain - a giant library of maps.and nothing more...so long things remain like they are.
2007, 10, 14 22:02
Switzerland is like the only country I can think of that has (some) direct democracy. In Germany, France, USA etc you elect the people who make the decision every 4 years, and then you better get out of the way. And it is quite obvious why:
1) Most people don't really know what they are talking about. While politicians are not perfect, they will still make better decisions than the majority of the people.
2) It would just take too damn long and be too expensive to ask everyone about every little detail.

So if you want, we can have an "BWMN-congress" elected, those ppl then decide on the MOTW :P
2007, 10, 15 12:48
True democracy never existed yet. Not back in ancient greece, where women were not allowed to participate in politics, and not nowadays where you only have a few parties to choose from - especially if you don't want to vote an extremist party. Bringing up a new party is a very lengthy process and won't succeed most of the time.

You chose BWMN as your leading party by visiting it and posting your maps here. Panschk as the leader of that party chose the Admins who have the power to make decisions.
You can try to influence the Admins, become an Admin yourself or even choose another mapping site. But BWMN arguably is the best for melee mapping, isn't it? :p
