Lancet | | | The main in this map is only accesible to ground units through an readily defensible choke that has some high ground next to it giving rise to attacking and defensive scenarios. The natural expo has a "debris" field in front of it that facilitates defence against a frontal attack by slowing down ground units.
The map has two "island" expos isolated by low ground from the rest of the map. The map is asimetrical in that the lower left and upper right mains are next to these island expos, while the lower right and upper left mains are right next to the natural expos of lower left and upper right separated by low ground.
Please let me know what you think of this map. Sorry not to include a picture but I have not figured out yet how to do this. | Nightmarjoo | | | left side of screen -> files and then dig around there til you find an image maker, try this link here
About the map, it looks ok but it's really low money. I suggest adding atleast a mineral only per player to the map. The decoration leaves much to be desired; the middle is pretty open and useless at the moment. The mains should really have more minerals than just that, the game will go pretty slow with so little money at every expo.
Gas issue, right geyser mines slower than left geyser, see gas issue articles in our article database (right side of site). You should test the map to make sure those doodad walls work perfectly.
Not bad for a starting map, I hope to see more from you in the future. You can edit your map with Edit, on the left side of site. | Lancet | | | Nightmarjoo, thanks for your comments, I will think about them.
As to the picture, I clicked on the link you provided and downloaded the "mapconverterv1.7" file to my Starcraft directory, it appears as a "RAR" file (I also tried opening it directly). But when I double click on it, it just takes me to the starcraft game program. How do I make the map picture after that?
I am also not able to edit the map. I have put in every concievable variation of the map name with and without the (4) in front and the (n).scx after that and all I get is the following message:
"Error. Make sure you entered the correct map id.
Warning: mysql_fetch_array(): supplied argument is not a valid MySQL result resource in /www/htdocs/v127008/mappage/editpub2.php on line 6"
Any help you or anyone can give me with these issues is appreciated.
Thanks. | Lancet | | | I checked on the map again and "lo and behold" it has its picture next to it. I have no idea whatsoever of how I did this! | Antares | | | well to be honest, you have lot to learn, but not bad. the assynómetry you spoke of sometimes more important than you think. this map has very low economy, so a nearer expansion could be so crucial. especially terrans like island expansions.
the entrance seems to help them also, imagine, what can a protoss player do from the cliff with goons, but a terran with those deadly siege tanks. it might be annoying in this scenario, but just a thought. | illskillz | | | please-o-please edit mineral lines ...
the map - not bad :) | Nightmarjoo | | | lol I added a picture for you, also I beleive it will show that error everytime even though it actually does edit the map :) | Lancet | | | Thank you all for your comments and thanks Nightmarjoo for adding the picture for me. I am editing the map and I will play it to make sure it is sound but the fact still remains that:
1) I have no idea whatsoever how to produce a picture of my map. Like I posted above, when I open the file it just takes me to the Starcraft program; then what do I do?
and
2) I also don't know how to edit my map. Like I posted above I get the error message, then what do I do?
I would be very thankful if someone can tell me what to do in a step by step fashion. Please be patient, remember when you were all newbies!
: ^ )
Lancet | Nightmarjoo | | | 1. That link should be a program that you download, once you dl it install it; after that you make a picture by right clicking the map file and then clicking the thing that says something about make a picture.
2. As long as you enter (4)Desierto(n).scm as melee and some pic for pic and enter the correct password it will work. Don't worry about the error message, ignore it. Just go look to see if the map picture updated or not (when you can make your own pics^^) I see that the filename is incorrect at the moment (4 Desierto instead of (4)Desierto, it wasn't like that before, which just goes to show that the error message is a poser. | Lancet | | | This is frustrating. No matter what I do the picture making program is saved as a RAR file (its icon has what looks like a wraith on it). It does not give me the option of installing it and every time I click on it just takes me to the starcraft program.
As to the "edit" function I think that maybe with the new name "(4 Desierto" the file was corrupted or something. I guess the best thing will be for me to just download the updated map that now has a different name (Desierto-II), and then the web page administrators can just delete the old map.
Another question, my original file was not a ".scn" file but a ".scx" file, is that an issue?
Thanks.
| Nightmarjoo | | | no, .scx is for any map with things in it which are a broodwar feature, something not in original sc.
Do you have scmdraft? You can create better images with it, it just takes a little more time. If your scmdraft version is current enough (mine is a couple versions old and it can do this), under file I think is 'save image', you click that and name the pic and save it somewhere. This creates a very large bmp. Using an image editor (I use photofiltre, google it to dl it), resize it to 768x768, and save it as a jpg not bmp. This makes it just like pics made from the image making program. | Lancet | | | OK, I edited this map now that I have figured out many things I did not know before. The "new" thing in this map is that the "debris fields" provide protection to the nats (slows down enemy attacks). |
