Um why not? But someone would have to manage the tournaments, and I don't know if that would be one from gg.net or one of us.
I also would be careful with motw as maps for a 1on1 tournament. Not every motw is automatically suited for good competetive 1on1 play, at least not the way I understand it right now.
So feel free to do it, would be cool if that worked.

Then we will have to work out a good way of choosing maps as MotW then. The concept was maps for competitive play right? Then we must sharpen ourselves in picking maps that suits competitive play. That is why i will not vote Mark of the Beast as MotW etc. I see no problems in your concerns about MotW as 1v1 tourneys. So far every map we have chosen more or less have been suited anyways.. perhaps with exception for the great divide 4.. i dunno..
But again and again i point out that we must have a solid system to choose MotW. So far this is our only activity, and it would be hella lot tragical if we can't (even) get this single one working perfectly.
My system is still as following:
Selected few takes turns in picking the map for the current week. That way the person can decide long before it is time for posting and can do some research and perhaps a little interview to make the reading more interesting. Also there will be alot more diversity since we all got different taste, both regarding races, tatctics and tilesets etc.
This selected few must be quite objective though. It is not allowed to pick a map you made yourself, and its not allowed to take turns in picking each others maps - thus making the system incestial. This system, as shown, is based on objectiveness and manners, but so far the entire page is build upon that so perhaps the system is suiting.

Ive send a PM on gg.net to mazor suggesting some kind of co-op. Let's hope we'll get a good answer :9

This site should have something where it tells us how many users/guests are currently on this page or website.

Besides the aiding of mapmakers in the persuit of getting their maps out to the public, one major objective should be that the maps get played.
Map contests that would ensure maps playtime come too seldomly, and it is impossible that many people would create the maps in public games, and the likeliness of good players playing a user made map in a serious game is low.
However, tournaments using maps from this site will not only attract more users to the site (via the fact that the page has map downloads/map jpegs) but also help accomplish it's goals by having maps played.
I don't know about other servers, but generally on USWest there is generally at least one public tournament per day, and negociations with the organizers of those tournaments might convince them to use some maps from here, or you could even begin organizing tournaments yourselves.
My friend has even programmed a "tournament bot" which not only helps automate the process, but it outputs culmulative user stats and brackets. While I don't think he would be willing to simply give anyone the bot or the code given the work hes poured into it (and still is), but it is worth a try to attempt to run tournaments on these maps, successful or not.
Also, to attact more members, there is no better way to advertise the site than to use the maps themselves. On mapdori, they have a little logo on the bottom corner of all their maps; is it possible to automate such a thing here, such as making a scm2jpeg that outputs a logo on the bottom? When releasing a map to the public by posting at forums, having download links lead to here would also help get more people to come here.

My knowledge is far from the level you need to do such fancy stuff:(
A bot would actually be really cool, if it could be used for a ladder..? I suppose the bot would only be online when your friend is online though?
Well we have the scripts here to make tournaments, if anyone wants to host one, feel free to use the scripts here to do it. imo it is too frustrating if 60% leave after the first round, plus being an organisator is quite some stress.
But there will be a 2on2 league soon probably, and I plan on hosting the mapcontest for a 3on3 league too.

I'm interested in helping with any of these tournaments.
Also, I have a friend who is an admin on VGT (the new ladder). That might be of a bit of help somehow, I dunno.

mazor havnt asnwered my mail yet. Probably wont anyway. Epidion, read this and talk to him you instead :P you are the admin :D
boongee, great going, we'll come up with something.
I think a good start would be to gather in some way - msn, b.net w.e and discuss the future and interest of this page in real time. things change quickly here right now and forum posts get outdated very fast...

I talked to poGDI today, and he really liked the idea. He told me to talk to ZoXXeR since he is the Event organizer. I will talk to him later today when he gets on msn. This is looking promising SP.

I actually have Zoxxers msn so i speak to him too. Might be good if we both do it since it will seem like more of a "popular demand" then :)
I also used to know poGDI before he got involved in GG.net so mabye he remembers me :P... That could be good too perhaps..

I am trying to schedule a msn "meeting" with zoxxer and raistlin of gg.net tomorrow and wil discuss the future of this project. Both seems to be very interested, and mazor himself left the decision and responsibility to raistlin due to his own abscence, which means it hopefully is looking quite good for us :)
btw there are several maps that needs commenting and critizism, so go get busy! :O
