hm lets ban ProTosS4EveR...
i mean... he isnt even an admin :o

"...is there any problem with making lancet admin so he can just post it officially? Wouldnt that be easier ?"
Thanks panschk! That's quite a proposition. I certainly have some ideas.
I would like to write articles about spells and some paticular combinations of sprites and doodads. I would bring back the spells-on-maps contest and an only-experimental-maps contest. I would try to put in place a set of rules as to how a MOTM gets selected, which either by and large respects the votes a map gets or does away with the voting system altogether.
However, you may want to consult the regular admins though. I think there is a perception that when it comes to maps my taste is too...let's say "exotic" for this web-site. There is also the issue that I am a very poor Starcraft player and some people would tell you that if you can't play good you can't judge maps good.
2007, 09, 18 00:45
I tell people that every day Lancet, its my job
2007, 09, 18 03:47
I don't wanna be an admin!!! I just thought of writing the news post, cuz nobody is posting something.
2007, 09, 18 13:18
ptar! STFU GO ADMIN ;DDD
2007, 09, 18 13:27
admin on BWMN means that you just can do something for the site if you want. i'd be against lancet doing anything more than hosting his own(!) competitions and/or posting the winners of motm. he's not the qualification to more, as "very poor" is a very nice euphemism (me saying this means something, considering i am quite noobie too 8[)
2007, 09, 18 15:36
As flo so elegantly put it, fuck you lancet. It's not like, some really nice, exceptionally amazing maps are waiting. Silver Flush imo is almost as good as it'll get. Testbug has been busy with school and whatever else, so he hasn't had the time to work on his map.
Lancet, why do you think it's so great to post the maps which got the highest votes? Does that make them good maps? Semi-good maps? Protoss4ever hasn't at all addressed the issues I pointed out with Coastal Battery. You guys are just staring at a picture.
School started, I'm busy, flo's busy, Nasty's busy. I don't even see what the rush is to throw up a turd of a map. Silver Flush is 3490509345 times better than iron flush, and you were perfectly willing to post that piece of shit. Learn sc/mapping before you can be an admin.
Also, please know that the motw used to be decided by admins mostly, or atleast by experienced mappers. MOTW worked pretty well because there were always nice new maps coming out with people who'd give nice comments along with flames, and authors willing to edit their own map. People did NOT add their map the moment they made it to motw competition, they worked on it, tried to perfect it, saw what other people thought about the map first, then uploaded it. Now we have motm, a device which was supposed to be better by using the Avaton Tournament to test maps. People would in theory edit their maps to be as great as possible, then be tested by somewhat decent players. Then, authors would edit their tested maps, and then a winner of those would be chosen. Too bad that we get like, one map with 50 votes, another with 40, and then the rest with like 5, and the top two maps suck, and the authors don't edit them or test them or anything. Not to mention the only reason they got any votes is because the author made his jpg brighter, and a bunch of noobs voted the prettiest map instead of the map they'd actually like to play on. Now, I exagerate, but I'm not totally wrong at all =/
Give me active mappers/testers, and I'll be your active admin.
2007, 09, 19 00:02
lol i put it elegantly? :D
2007, 09, 19 15:59
Yes, it was the most elegant thing I've ever seen, something only a sexy bwm admin could pull off!
2007, 09, 19 17:11
what's a "worker slide"?? :(
and Lancet is really talking about augost, 2008 when writing MOTM 8.08 (use Ctrl+F if you can't find it)
@master panschk: "is there any problem with making lancet admin so he can just post it officially?"
------ ok seriously -------
shut up lancet. it's not admins fault like they do't want to post winners.
it's my faul i don't finish the maps that have won.
Endless fields was a final version when it won, but they found a lot of bugs, so i made this new version tha is at 80% i think.
iron flush sux, crackling made that concept :)
it won because of the picture, (i don't think silver flush picture will have that optical illusion effect) and what's wrong with you? the thing about 3 failed motm is the funny part of doing the motm9 thing.
Coastal batery shows thing on the center, protoss4ever did not wanted to change it.
i won't write nothing about Eres :)
BUT! Morris plains is a great map
i can do Endles Fields today, but then the 1.3 version of coastal battery will gain the 2nd place, that map has to be edited :S
2007, 09, 19 19:24
oh, i would like to be an admin too, but only for the The PIMPING Mappers thing.
is there any way to give me super powers in that seccion so i wan modify the pics? i can reduce the weight of those pictures (it looks like Arden used the original pictures, and changed the size with html, i would make new pics and do the magic with fireworks) then i'll add Shine as the pimpest version of Obsession :D
well, Mystery Dope 2.0 is the pimped version of an other map, i remember there were some thing to do in that competition.
2007, 09, 19 19:27
iron flush sux, crackling made that concept :)
- lol i was all the time during work with u like "lets edit this thing" or "nah that was a crap idea lets remove it" but u was like "nooo i like it, i gonna keep it" -.- u got most crappy ideas like with minerals on ramp or mineralblock at minonly -_-
i also wanted to remove the xelnaga completly o_o
and yes, most of new member look jsut on the pic, take f.e. moon tear O_O
worst map ever gameplaywise >_> modified by Crackling
2007, 09, 19 23:19
You see what happens here when somebody demands some respect? Just replace "Lancet" in Nightmarjoo's post with "BWMN mappers" and you will get the idea (now, THAT is elegant).
Everyone has an opinion as to which is the best map. But if you allow people to vote then you must accept the results of that vote, PERIOD, end of the discussion. Anything else is hypocrisy. I have rolled my eyes more than once over some of the maps selected here as MOTW or MOTM. I can't believe that people do not fall asleep playing some of these maps. I have also had qualms about people voting for pretty maps as opposed to interesting maps. But I accept the results because it is a vote.
Is this concept really that hard to grasp?
Oh, and if you are not mad enough at me yet here is another one for you. Admins should NOT be allowed to enter maps in the competitions. There, I said it. It is just not proper for the same people that select the winning maps to also compete.
But since it has been made plain from the replies here that our votes don't count then let's be honest. Scrap the voting altogether or make the rules clear as to what the voting is, what it means and who can vote.
Some other issues:
It's ludricous to believe that the best players would be the best mappers. By that token NADA, Yellow, Nalra, Boxer and so forth would make the best maps. I just mentioned it to panschk to be honest, but I don't agree with it.
There are people who do not implement suggested changes, but there are people who write their reasons but not doing so or their qualms about doing so and don't get a response. I have argued that the "Newest Updates" section should be increased to say 20 maps as many maps fade from that box too fast.
Iron Flush IS a great map. I do admit that Flo's version improves a few things but not orders of magnitude. Moon Tear is not the "worst map ever", it is merely just boring. These are only my opinions which, of course, doe not count.
If you are too busy to post the winners or edit the maps then accept more admins to help you. I would be willing to help unless I am forced to pass the "ideological purity" test.
And finally, current open competitions (9-19-07):
Reverse your map contest
Pimp Classic Maps
The pimping mappers
Nightmarjoo's Random Map Competition #2
And guess what? MOTM 10 is coming!!!!!
What horror-turd-noob maps will that bring?
2007, 09, 20 02:25
"Admins should NOT be allowed to enter maps in the competitions" then we'd get no good maps ever LOLOLOLOL
The MOTW vote used to be voted only by those who'd been mapping for a while, as the older mappers became inactive the newer mappers began replacing them in the vote, someone had to =/ If we did it your way, Desert Flower would have won motw. Iron Flush is a BAD MAP. If you think it's good, you're retarded.
Not to mention, more maps of higher quality were made back then. It was a competition between decent maps usually, lol. Not, oh god, which bad map should I post this month?
Moon Tear both had the most votes and wasn't a terrible map. That's what it takes to win motm, to get a lot of votes, and not be a terrible map. If a map can be noticeably improved, there is no reason to make it a winner.
All I see you doing in this thread is complaining about everything. You complain about maps being made motm when they won the vote, and then whine when a map which did get the vote isn't posted as winner. Why should I post a map which should be improved? Or hell, just a bad map period? Endless Fields isn't terrible, but it needs work. It's a beta still. Maps which aren't final versions, edited to correct every single valid pointed out issue, after having been tested some, and commented, and edited mutliple times, SHOULD NOT BE SUBMITTED. The problem with our current competition trend is that maps are submitted without actually being worked on. Do the work before submitting, and I don't have to tell you your map is shit after it gets 34059304959 votes.
Starting with MOTM10, to make you happy Lancet, I'm going to filter out every map which has any noticeable issues. Every map which has 0 replays. Every map which isn't user final. That way, if we have any maps in the competition that month, there is no chance of having a shit map get the most votes. That way, only quality maps will be there to be voted on. You'll have your pick between decent maps. Testing will show which is the best of them.
2007, 09, 20 03:28
heuy it was a joke :S
i'm the only person who likes flush and iron flush.
i dilike silver and mana, sorry crackling ok :(

"You see what happens here when somebody demands some respect? Just replace "Lancet" in Nightmarjoo's post with "BWMN mappers" and you will get the idea (now, THAT is elegant)."
this doesnt refer to anything, and has no backing at all.
"Everyone has an opinion as to which is the best map. But if you allow people to vote then you must accept the results of that vote, PERIOD, end of the discussion. Anything else is hypocrisy. I have rolled my eyes more than once over some of the maps selected here as MOTW or MOTM."
well, where did you read this is a democratic election? we're not in some country, we're on an internet page where in the end - as on every page - the admins decide what is good for the website.
and if a shitmap would get 100000x votes it wont be MOTM because it is not good for the map. we admins are just the most skilled mappers here, PERIOD. some (still) noobie mappers wont influence our actions until they show skill in either mapmaking, game experience or playing BW. nasty, starparty, nightmarjoo, testbug, me and everyone that should be named here as well are just incredibly high above you. dont even try to compare you to us. this isnt elegant now, but you just got too big for your boots. motw/motm has NEVER been designed to represent the voting of the majority of members, as everyone can freely reigster here. Motm is to carry out our best works to the world of broodwar, to show-off and show-case what we're able to do. and if admin maps get this title, it is because we admins have TONS of experience and skill in mapmaking. so dont mess around with your few kilograms. the map that represents BWMN best wins motm. PERIOD, as you would call it.
"I can't believe that people do not fall asleep playing some of these maps. I have also had qualms about people voting for pretty maps as opposed to interesting maps. But I accept the results because it is a vote."
now, also a standard map can be greatly executed and play well with an awesome flow. and what is boting and what is interesting and what is too weird is ALWAYS dependant on who is looking at it. however, among us admins there is enough knowledge to know if a map is too experimental to be a figurehead to BWMN or not. and we know if it is too standard. or if it is just pretty but horribly imbalanced and bad in gameplay. again, the votes are a help to decide because we can see what skilled members (not necessarily admins) choose and vote. we never counted all votes from bwmn "new-be"s
"Oh, and if you are not mad enough at me yet here is another one for you. Admins should NOT be allowed to enter maps in the competitions. There, I said it. It is just not proper for the same people that select the winning maps to also compete."
you stupid retard. if we admins dont participate, there will hardly be any good maps or hardly be any admins. being "admin" on this page is not exactly like others. admin is everyone who is skilled and keeps the site running somehow. and everyone who fits these criteria can easily be admin. note there are many "admins" (we should REALLY call it premium-user :o ) not doing any so-called adminwork.
"But since it has been made plain from the replies here that our votes don't count then let's be honest. Scrap the voting altogether or make the rules clear as to what the voting is, what it means and who can vote."
we made it clear several times in several threads when some newbies cried because their maps or their voted maps didnt win. we stated just what we state to you now. there is some kind of oligarchy here, no democracy.
Some other issues:
"There are people who do not implement suggested changes, but there are people who write their reasons but not doing so or their qualms about doing so and don't get a response. I have argued that the "Newest Updates" section should be increased to say 20 maps as many maps fade from that box too fast."
the newest updates ARE the newest updates. if you want to see everything, click on the button. if i can do this, you can too. 10 is a good number. you're probably too new to realize that every map which is really good or has potential, gets comments and stays on top anyway. and every map that is worked on, played on, improved stays on top as well. uncared-for maps however (as yours) just drop. it isnt the number-10's fault that your maps dont get attention. they've just not the potential for it. dont cry now. everyone of us had this, but only those who worked on themselves and imrpoved their skills stayed here - and most of them are what we call now the old-school-members.
"Iron Flush IS a great map. I do admit that Flo's version improves a few things but not orders of magnitude. Moon Tear is not the "worst map ever", it is merely just boring. These are only my opinions which, of course, doe not count."
you have never played iron flush obviously, or on a very pitiful level. i could tell from the pic and 2 games that there are serious issues about the map. but i wont argue here with you, as you never stated reasonable and correct arguments on why iron flush is okay. IN FACT, YOU NEVER STATED ANYTHING AT ALL! and now you're crying that your opinion on it was not heard? are you serious??!?!!
oh, and meanwhile - due to your total lack of knowledge about broodwar, your low skill and recent fits of megalomania - your opinions DID become indifferent to me. see this as my last post to this issue and yourself. see what time we admins needed again to answer your silly post. this time could have been a newspost or two. but instead we need to rectify our work for this site. and little maggots like you make us lose the fun on it. do you know why there are no newsposts? because the little spare time we momentarily have is too precious for us to waste for retarded kiddies like you that think they'd be something of importance and they'd be always right with their opinion.
"If you are too busy to post the winners or edit the maps then accept more admins to help you. I would be willing to help unless I am forced to pass the "ideological purity" test."
there is nothing about ideological purity. we admins have had many quarrels among each other, having the right attitude to everything doesnt make you admin. it is activity, skill and sacrifice for mapping and this site which lead to this state. take testbug for example. he mapped, helped, commented, improved, tested like mad. then he asked if he could have admin power. he instantly got it.
"And finally, current open competitions (9-19-07):
Reverse your map contest read below
Pimp Classic Maps is designed to stay open so everyone who feels like can add his works to this collection
BWN Mappack was the reason we needed NMP candidates
NMP candidates is currently stopped because we set a must-have-replays-rule in order to garantee better quality. the replays are not coming, so this will stay as it is until we have enough decent maps of enough decent authors to chose and set up a good mappack
The pimping mappers same as classic pimp comp
MOTM 7 is open, has winners, has no newspost. you know why, just read above

That's ok, you indented enough to make it readable :)
Ugh I really need to conclude those two competitions. Glad I never promised to play all of the #2 maps, still have to do #1 though. But the #1 maps were on average better anyway :)
2007, 09, 20 22:46
I still disagree and I could reply to the replies point by point too but enough said.
