origo hills really doesnt grab my attention.. very small chokes.. the islands (w/ bridges) arent placed right(mainly 6) and some sides of them cant be defended well as others..

unholy gods wuld get a vote but the area by the nat is too cramped.

electrical sector would get a vote if it just looked better (sorry lnept -_-)

Perhaps, but I believe my map should have a bit more attention as it is a lot more experimental than a lot of maps, whilst still retaining some form of balance (at least, no obvious imbalances have been shown yet.)

i could, but this is exactly the point why i only visit motw-thread now. i dont want to be the single asshole having to make the effort everytime. the effort to explain why a map doesnt work, or - like in this case - is only average in gameplay. back then, in the old times (for me), most people just saw it or, if you mentioned it, they thought about it and got it. today, if i say it, nobody sees it or is even willing to see it.

i dont say i am superior, but people arent critics to themselves nowadays here. with a short neutral look, you instantly get some points clearly screwing northern keep.

-naturals promote turtle/FE-style
-horizontal positions are SO tight, and while pushing, T even gets a free gasexpo.
-minonlies block paths and probably fuck up unit movement
-PATHING ON HORIZONTAL POS _MAY_ BE SCREWED. did you test?
-minonly is too safe, with this tight bridge. and esp. terran can cover it from above
-the center is too large. remark i dont say too open, but too large. it is too open for my taste, though. the overall map is standard, or more below average. the cool look seems to cover this for most people voting for it in this motw-thread :[

Finally, thank you for pointing these out, but just so you know, pathing is NOT screwed up. I tested it already; I always test things especially if they are extremely crucial. They go through the wide bridges all the time.

And in my very first post, I did ask for people's opinions on whether the minonlies as well as the pathways are too tight or not in my mapthread. I personally thought it was tight, but I wanted confirmation from people (particularly knowledgeable people like yourself.) But nobody responded.

Other people seem to always get their responses in the mapthreads, why don't I? Even a simple yes or no would do so. =/

if ur trying to promote it, yes it does make a difference.. at this stage, its not in any way presenatable for motw.. thus meaning the quality of the map is just not up to par... the layout is quite unique, but there is exactly no motivation to play it b/c of its look... the point is, is that it could look alot better, which is a bonus in anyones' book... look at trcc's and sp's maps.. what seperates there's from others? the attention for detail, the creativity of the terrain.. minus those things and u have a realitively common map that culd be made by lnepts ideas towards maps.. i think i've mentioned this to lnept: if u wuld jus make it more appealing, ppl will fall for his maps.. its that simple

nasty, please. of course you need replays when it comes to very experimental maps. but you dont need them to prove points like mine on your map. the more standard a map is, the more one can apply issues of other maps. just take the minonly, which is - after me - securable for terran from above. have you ever tried kicking a terran minonly on 12h LT? even if you can kill it in PvT, 3tanks and 2turrets above it on the maincliff deal heavy damage and losses to you, unequal and unfair high damage. you dont need replays for this, why would you? same goes for the HUGE center. or for the naturals being very easy to secure. you can easily judge their effects on gameplay by experience as mapper and gamer.

the tricky thing i tried to tell you is that, if northern keep was my map, i had never published it in a state like this/in the current state. i wouldnt have uploaded it here, until i am able to come up with a solution to all the points i mentioned above. i would have changed all bad aspects if anyhow possible before even thinking of uploading it. this is what makes you a real good mapper- never be satisfied. the thought "aw, it is not perfect, but it will work" is killing any progress. i can recall an incident where trcc uploaded a actually interesting and cool map - but he took it out since he was not able to get a decent positional balancing. this is what needs to be done: no flaws. and publishing a map even though you know it has flaws is incapacity (very experimental maps that are kinds of "studies" may be excluded in my eyes). no matter what you produce in life, without being your own meanest critic, you wont get far. this is exactly what i am missing in this "new" generation of mappers...i tell you obvious flaws, but you stick to your version until you have replays proving it. and even with reps i guess, you'll say "it is not too bad". sure, if it is not too bad, it works out, but your question should be "how could i improve it, so it doesnt just "work".

you wanted me in my thread (where my long statement is still missing, but i will write it) that i tell you what is going on my nerves and what i think, because i am "older school". not to tell you as teacher, but as one who is here since a short while after the launch of this site. and here you are. it may sound cruel and it surely sounds arrogant, but you know i am this way when i really try to change something. i dont want any bad, i just want to open eyes, what in _my_ eyes is necessary.

to lnepts electrical sector: it also has flaws, i already named a few but he didnt change. he didnt even care to change the picture to a better one so you can see things more clearly. as he is not willing to change or improve, his maps are lost anyway.

of course i know this. i have nothing to argue about.. but at the same time, dont we want those new ideas in the community to bring new fun into the game? Im not saying put a bunch of imbas in a map so that they can balance themselves out (with huge center for pvt, and cliffs for tvp) but the way you and the 'old schoolers' want it, we'll be making the same damn maps soon and we need these kind of ideas to shed new light on the community.

And your right about the the cliffing thing (experiance can tell you right or wrong), but you also gotta take into consideration that some things may balance it off or not.. Have you ever watched the reps i put on for Mother Love? Or even the reps on Beloved Land? I mean i know BL is as experimental as they come, but those reps show that some things that u say b/c of ur experience as a mapper arent always true.. thats why we shuld wait for reps.. which i am doing. Which isnt wrong. ur approach isnt wrong either but they way u are approaching it, we'll all have standard layouts etc that can only go on for so long.. and with standard layouts, how will we ever get noticed?

it was an example showing your attitude. obviously you agree a bad placed nat is NOT original and fresh but annoying. so why do you stick to the tight passages, to the bad placed minonly, to the HUGE center?
well, who cares. keep your map as it is. this is exactly why i stopped commenting maps. no one wants help or improvements, so no one gets either of them from me. be sure this is also the last time i comment a map in the motw thread. i will just post votes from now on.
