Posted by:Starparty When posting a map. be sure You name the map correctly, and name the author correctly. Dont add a slight modifyed map and claim authorship for it. Specially not famous maps that we all know were made by people like Valkyrie, Rose.of.Dream or MoonGoon. That is very disrespectful to the true authors. Think about it, had it been a movie or a song which had been modifyed without permission and not given credit for, You would get sued before you had time to blink your eye. Now there are no cash profit involved in this site so its not entirely comparable. I can just say that it is extremely low manner to steal credit for something someone else made.
Edit by Panschk[FP]:
I just want to add that
1) It is good to upload maps, actually I prefer if someone loads up a map and has "?" for author or puts it in the wrong categorie over that same person just not contributing at all. We can change that quite easily afterwards. It is still better to do it the right way directly of course.
2) Whenever you have a traditional map slightly changed, writing "[author], modified by [person who modified]" is best imho. I already altered HoV3 and JS3 this way.
Posted by:Starparty I believe this site has great potential and therefor i will contribute as much as i can. I love to see new maps all the time. Just make sure that if You post your maps here, check out the threads from time to time. I will try to give good critisism to as many as i can, but i also need a response. If you continuously ask questions i will answer them. Try not to let the threads die, atleast not before the map is "finnished".
To sum it up. I will try to help as much as I can, in difference to other communities (not naming specificly) where you get comments not worth a crap. But that also requires an effort from your part too. Check out the threads for your maps frequently and aswer to the replys and we will make great maps togheter!
oh and yes, a technicality too :P Dont add every map you ever made at the same time. Pick your best and work hard on that, then go to the next idea. This way there will be less maps at a time, and more dedicated comments. And if you decide to upload a promap - please, do a fast search for images on google if you havn't got one. It saves us _SO_ much trouble... Many of the maps are locked versions so I can't make JPG's out of them...
Edit: Should You also consider uploading a REPLAY, please follow the instructions on that page too. it really isn't that hard. Furthermore it is much funnier downloading a properly named replay than a replay thats named "asdfghj". It seems a bit more proffesional. Thanks
Thanks to Panschk for making this site
Thanks to all the users for using it
Oh, and for all those who want to know optimal gas placement, I just added the article i posted on teamliquid.net. go check it out - filed under "Articles"
Edit: I also just added another article on making wide bridges fast with StarForge. Read it!
Posted by:panschk[FP] Every user with a news account can write articles now. You will need some HTML knowledge to do more than pure text (images, links, tables). I hope that way we can get tutorials on "how to make larger bridges?" etc
Posted by:Starparty im very happy that panschk are letting me help him on this site! I will go over the maps from time to time, ensuring that the quality is maintained. I believe this page is so great, it was the least i could do :)
Posted by:panschk[FP] I added a replay upload possibility. It is not easy to find right now (I will make an extra list for all replays an other day) that's why I tell where to find it. On the comments page to each map there is an option "upload replay of this map" at the right. If there are already replays for the map, they are displayed there, too. Of course, the script does not test if the replay has really been played on the map, but still you should only post replays for the right map.
